Mariana Gonzalo

started her tango career in 1991 with the Masters Nito and Elba García; and she found her personal style guided by Fabián Salas, Gustavo Naveira, Chicho Frúmboli and Lucía Mazer . Mariana has been improving her dance technique regularly with these masters.

 

She developed her knowledge and interest in teaching with a degree in Physical Education (1993-1997) and a teaching degree in Jazz Dance (1989- 1996).  She has worked as a tango teacher, dancer and choreographer in Argentina ( National Technological University , National University of Mar del Plata, Club Grisel, Mansión Dandi Royal, Confitería Ideal, Club Sin Rumbo ), Panama ( Argentine Tango Festival at the Intercontinental Miramar Hotel - 2004) , US ( University of Michigan, Mercury Café- Denver, The Henry Ford Museum- Detroit, La Belle Epoque- NY) and Norway (Stavanger Tango Verksted www.stavangertango.org , TV Vest, Literature Festival)

 

 

In January 2001, she performed " La Cumparsita " to an audience of 30,000 people, at the closing ceremony of the World Seven of Rugby (J.M.Minela Stadium in Mar del Plata); an event broadcasted by ESPN to 177 countries

 

She organized a very successful milonga: ‘ La Milonga de Mar del Plata' at the Jockey Club for three years.
During the 2003 summer season, Mariana was head of Public Relations, also working as DJ, at the ‘ Milonga Estación de Tango', a tango dancing venue organized by the New Federal Department of Culture at the Hotel Provincial in Mar del Plata.

 

Her latest theatre performance has been as a lead dancer in the musical ‘ Vamos al Tango ' , a show produced by the Konex Fundation and presented in Mar del Plata and Buenos Aires. This show has been awarded four ‘Estrella de Mar' awards for best musical in Mar del Plata. During 2006 and 2007 she has performed at Complejo Tango Show – Directed by Carlos Borquez ( www.complejotango.com.ar) - Buenos Aires.

 

She has taken part in tango videos and DVDs produced by Pablo Verón ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNWO5Ev4Ud8 ), Fabián Salas, Carolina del Rivero and Mauricio Castro .

She also worked in CITA (Congreso Internacional de Tango Argentino- www.cosmotango.com ) in 2004 and 2005, and will be taking part in the next CITA in 2008.

Mariana is interested in women's role and elegance in tango and how a continuous focus and control of the body aids the follower (women) to maintain good balance and adapt to the movements led by men.
